What is 'Pilates and Me’

'Pilates and Me' is a set of flash cards that is not expensive, simple, effective and fun. Most importantly it can be done:

  • by teachers or parents without the need of a Pilates teacher to explain
  • in a space next to the desk or seated on the student's chair - no need to clear space!
  • regularly - for example in the morning, whilst changing subjects or to concentrate / focus a class.

Why I created the cards?

My project began while watching my own children grow and having discussions with others about children's posture. While helping in a school gym class, I was horrified to see the posture of many young children - poor flexibility, poor alignment, rounded backs and tense shoulders! It was then that I was inspired to find a simple and fun way to teach children to become aware of their bodies and improve their body posture.

What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates was the creator of what is now known as Pilates. He believed that we should be balanced equally in body, mind, and spirit. He also believed that modern life-style, bad posture, and inefficient breathing were the roots of poor health. His answer - a unique series of life enhancing physical exercises that help to correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility, as well as to increase breathing capacity.

Joseph Pilates believed that everyone, especially children should be practicing Pilates. These cards are a tribute to Joseph Pilates and a fun and effective way to spread his work and message.
