FAQ

Pilates is a fitness system that improves posture, flexibility and strength. It’s a balanced workout for the whole body, helping to relieve back pain, prevent injury and promote relaxation and stress reduction.

Joseph Pilates, born in Germany and naturalized American, lived from 1883 to 1967. Interned by the British during the First World War, he taught his method of exercise, which he called Contrology, to his fellow internees.

Pilates is for everyone! Whether you’re a beginner, an injured person or a seasoned athlete, Pilates is designed for all fitness levels and body types. Our highly qualified teachers will adapt to your needs.

We see the best results with customers who practice at least 2 times a week.

Absolutely, but please consult your doctor before starting a new exercise program in early recovery or during pregnancy. Pilates methods are recommended by physiotherapists, midwives, osteopaths and doctors to improve posture, correct imbalances and strengthen functional movement. One Pilates is recognized by many supplementary health insurance companies in Switzerland.

One Pilates teachers have undergone a comprehensive training program, including a 500-hour apprenticeship. Our studio is of the highest quality and is covered by your supplementary health insurance.

Please wear socks and close-fitting sportswear so that the instructor can see your body move. You can bring a bottle of water and a hair elastic if necessary.

Yoga is an ancient practice that includes physical postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, meditation and often explores ethical living and spirituality. Pilates is a modern system of effective body conditioning, aimed at realigning and connecting the body through conscious movement.

The main aim of Pilates is not to burn calories, but to train your body to move more powerfully. This change can have a transformational impact on your posture, movement, self-confidence and lifestyle, and will encourage you to move more.

Most people will derive similar benefits from both methods, as both will teach you to effectively use your core strength and strengthen your body’s core, which will translate into advantages in your daily activities or sports. While the exercises are similar on mats and equipment, the workouts are notably different.

Mat exercises use body weight only. Pilates machines have springs that add resistance and support, challenging the strong and strengthening the weak.

New Students

We offer 3 Discovery Group Classes or 3 Discovery Private Classes. We highly recommend that you start with the Private classes to make sure your individual needs are understood and that you move from your deep core.

All new clients must go through the 3 Discovery Classes. Once you have purchased this, you can sign up for the Beginner classes. These classes are for your safety—you will learn the basics of Pilates, including the setup of the apparatus.

  • Recognition of Pilates Suisse – verifies the standard of teaching and education of the teachers.
  • Qualicert approved – this confirms the studio standard and allows your health insurance to cover part of the costs.

Comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely! We recommend avoiding excessively baggy clothing as it can get caught in the Reformer. Tie long hair up and make sure no hair is hanging loose while on the Reformer, as it can get snagged and it is very uncomfortable!

Full-foot grip socks are required for both safety and sanitary reasons. We sell them in the studio, but you are welcome to bring your own.

The focus of Pilates is to improve strength, range of motion, and control. You will enhance cognitive awareness of your body, improve pain symptoms, and prevent injuries.

With regular committed Pilates workouts, you can expect to:

  • Build a strong, flexible body
  • Improve strength, flexibility, and balance
  • Challenge your entire body as the cohesive system that it is
  • Engage the mind and enhance body awareness
  • Reduce stress, relieve tension, boost energy, and sleep better
  • Create a stronger, more flexible spine
  • Feel amazing!

Both are based upon the premise of controlled movement against some form of resistance.

  • Mat classes: All you need is yourself and a mat (gravity will provide the resistance).
  • Studio Equipment classes: You use various pieces of spring-based equipment for additional challenge.

Classes & Memberships

Memberships renew automatically from month to month.

  • Members obtain the best prices—making a commitment to practice Pilates regularly means you’ll get the greatest benefit.
  • If you don’t already have any strength or resistance training in your routine, we recommend 2-3 times per week to obtain the best results.
  • If you’re adding Pilates to an already robust fitness routine that includes resistance training, we recommend at least once a week.

This recommendation is based on physical activity guidelines posted by most major global health organizations.

Class packs do not automatically renew and have strict time limits on validity.

  • Waitlists are open for all classes. If there are no more spots available, once you book the class, you will be added to the waitlist.
  • If the class does not become available, you will not be charged.
  • If an opening becomes available within 24 hours of the class, you will be contacted by text/email to confirm your spot before being charged.
  • Since we do not automatically add you to a class if a spot opens up within the 24-hour window, we encourage you to keep an eye out for available spots so you can add yourself.

Due to the small class sizes, we honor a strict 24-hour cancellation policy.
