Le pouvoir des tonneaux – un équipement clé que vous apprenez dans votre pratique du Pilates et dans votre formation de professeur.

Why every studio needs barrels – I’m talking about the spine correctors, the small barrel and the ladder barrel.

Barrels are used to open up a posture – the hips, spine, shoulders and sides.

Like all Pilates equipment, it’s designed to work the body holistically – all over! Even without springs, the Barrel offers us all the benefits of support and assistance to improve our Pilates skills.

How do Pilates barrels fit into the Pilates system as a whole?

Connecting the upper body (shoulder girdle and arms) to the center,
Finding the seat (glutes, inner thighs, lower back and lower trunk),
Lengthening the lower back and entire spine,
Extending (opening) the hip,
Balancing the body from side to side,

In today’s society, who doesn’t need a barrel?

Therefore, every studio MUST have a selection of barrels with different curvatures for different support – hence a different result every time! It’s imperative for anyone practicing Pilates to have access to barrels to help with the 5 points above.

A complete Pilates teacher training should cover the following equipment:
– Matelas
– Reformer
– Cadillac

When you learn the method as a whole, you’ll see how powerful it is, unlike equipment-by-equipment learning. When you learn equipment by equipment, it’s impossible to understand why we use equipment to develop a customer’s skills.

Let’s take the example of Tom, who works in an office and comes to Pilates because his doctor advised him to try Pilates to improve his flexibility and strengthen his core to avoid lower-back pain.
When Tom starts doing the Cent, you notice, as his teacher, that his shoulders are closed, he can’t lift his head without hurting his neck, and he can’t extend his legs without holding them from his trunk. In other words, he’s not in his center! This is, after all, why the doctor sent him and the purpose of Pilates!

To help him develop his skills – to move from his center and hold his center – you can use the barrel! He can open his chest, use the barrel support to hold his head and find his upper center, then lengthen his lower back and spine and work on his deep lower center.

Exercises we could use:
– Arm series – to open the chest and connect the arms to the upper torso; and

– Leg series – to help her find her lower center, anchor her pelvis and lengthen her hamstrings and quads.

Without access to the barrels, we could use the other equipment, but the results would take much longer. Barrels give direct access to the opening of the spine and shoulders!

In the One Pilates Teacher Training program, we teach you the exercise, the variations and how to put it all together so you can be a fantastic teacher with results. After all, that’s what Pilates is all about!

I spent a lot of money and years trying to find shortcuts, trying to find new exercises for the client to do. It took me a long time to realize that, in fact, the original system works – it’s powerful when you understand it, and super-powerful for the client because the results are there!

If you’re currently at a studio that doesn’t have barrels (at least one!) that you use, go ahead and try to find a studio where you can try one! Ask the studio:

– I’d like to try the barrels, is that possible?

– Are your teachers trained in the use of barrels?

– What type of barrels do you have in your studio that I can use?

And if you are considering teacher trainingmake sure you’re learning the system and not just exercises on Pilates equipment, and make sure all the barrels are included in the curcus!
