Finding balance from the ground up
In the second of my “Pilates Stories” series, I talk about Pierre, who had a series of major accidents, mainly due to a loss of balance. Read on to see how Pilates has changed her daily life.
In this second edition of “Pilates Stories”, I talk about Pierre’s Pilates experience, to give you an idea of what to expect in your first three classes.
At One Pilates, we ask all students to start with 3 one-to-one classes, so that we can assess your body and posture, but also so that you better understand where we’re going with your Pilates journey. We take the time to listen to your needs, understand your goals and introduce you to the principles of Pilates, so that you have the fundamentals to get you on the right track.
Pierre came to see me when he was experiencing a series of major accidents – mainly due to loss of balance – while carrying out his normal daily activities.
We worked on his proprioception and stability, found his center of gravity and realigned his axe. So where did we start? And her feet, of course!
We need a fresh start! Pierre had no joints in his feet and no arches either. I showed her the wonderful Feet and Ankle series that my mentor, Lolita San Miguel, loves so much. We woke up his feet! This series is now a daily staple for Peter, who now practices the exercises all day at his desk, because he loves it so much.
We then moved on to his legs and pelvis, the pillars of his foundation. We began to raise awareness of his standing and axe line, and this began his journey of correcting his posture and using his core to stabilize himself. We took the time to make sure Peter understood that properly executed exercises shape the body and movement.
Pierre’s first 3 classes were not the traditional way of teaching Pilates basics, but our approach was the most effective way for him to understand the power of Pilates and how it could help him directly.
The real proof is in the results: Pierre has had far fewer accidents. He has more confidence in himself and his body, and finally feels connected to his feet!
